Pillar 02 · Advocacy
Advocacy in the Gandhi-King tradition is not protest for its own sake. It is the steady, public commitment to transform a culture of violence into a culture of peace.
The Dayton International Peace Museum was established in 2004 in the wake of the Dayton Peace Accords, the 1995 agreement that ended the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dayton is the city that hosted those negotiations; the Peace Museum was built to make sure the city kept the work.
The museum's mission is "transforming our culture of violence into a culture of peace" through educational initiatives and collaborative efforts emphasizing justice, respect, and understanding. Their exhibits and programming address human rights, social justice, and nonviolence. The Gandhi-King Center partners with the museum as a co-host of public programming and Season for Nonviolence events.
Additional advocacy partnerships, position statements, and joint actions are being added. If your organization shares the Gandhi-King ethos and you would like to coordinate, write to us.
